The second Everest Poker European Cup took place in Vilamoura, Portugal, on October 20-21. 174 players participated in the live final event. Per Vennstrom is a 19-year-old Swedish player who surprised everyone. He turned out to be a first place finisher who left the final table with €21,000.

Richard Dutour (France) became a runner-up. He walked away from the final table with €16,000. Third place and €12,000 went to Roberto Machado (Portugal). Other finalists included Spain's Oscar Reyes, Thomas Pauchard from Switzerland, Eric Lespinasse and Jerome Cappelier from France, and Holland's Diede Pennin, Bert Besselink, and Morloes Willems.

The event was run in parallel with a special poker tournament for the media represented by such titles as Gazzetta dello Sport, Live Poker, First Poker, Poker Pro, Inside Poker, and Ace Magazine.

The police in the city of Hartford arrested nine men after having raided the basement which had been used as a poker venue for one month.

Douglas Corbin and Rick Marro turned out to be the leaders of the business. During the raid police confiscated six legal guns, seized $9,300 in cash slips listing point spreads for American football games and other sporting events. All of them have been charged with one count of professional gambling, while one has also been charged with the possession of 15 grams of cocaine.

It took police three weeks to monitor the location before the raid.

The suspects will appear in the State's Superior Court on the 2nd of November.
